HISTORY & ORIGINS

Moroccan Mint Tea
The origins of the Moroccan Mint tea are a little unclear. According to some, the Phoenicians (traders-first invaders of Morocco) created this sweet concoction in the 12th century, others say it was the Berbers (native inhabitants of North Africa, especially contemporary Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia) who took it from Asia.    Finally, others believe it was the Spanish and Portuguese invaders who invented this marvellous mint tea in the 1900s, while there are still others who say that it was brought in much earlier by Arab traders or introduced as a gift by Queen Anne of England in the 17th century.    Although the origins of this tea might be subject to discussion, one thing’s clear – it embodies hospitality, generosity, and affection, the Moroccan way.
